There’s no denying that the hospitality industry is up against it, so @littleplaces.london are on a worthy mission to celebrate the city’s most intriguing new openings – and the people making them happen. Here are three east London spots worth visiting.

Paulie’s, Homerton

The brainchild of husband-and-wife duo Paul and Jordan, this neighbourhood bagel bakery and sandwich shop is the evolution of ‘The Bagel Guys’ in Netil Market.Life’s too short for mediocre bagels, so the menu draws inspiration from New York’s bodega-inspired culinary delights. Whether you’re a salt beef bourgeoisie or a sucker for a classic New York breakfast, Paulie’s hits the spot with freshly made, 100% sourdough bagels – available to eat in, takeaway or have delivered as a naughty WFH treat. Sammies in your jammies?Perfection.

Darling’s, Hackney Wick

Nestled in the newly bustling Fish Island, Darling’s is the manifestation of years of Egle Loit’s pasta-dream-chasing journey that saw her take on a residency at Vestry House Museum in 2023, plus numerous pop-ups throughout north and east London.

‘Pasta is my way to express the essentialist in me’ she quotes on her website. Not only is Darling’s a beautifully cosy restaurant that smells as good as it looks, but it also doubles as a pasta-making studio, offering classes that share Cordon Bleu-trained Egle’s humble approach to making a food that ‘knows no barriers of class or wealth’.

Daze, London Fields

The latest resident to London Fields’ Night Tales Loft in Netil House, Daze was founded by longtime friends Batch Baby and Paradox.

More than just a coffee shop, their pop-up is a celebration of craftsmanship and collaboration – an idea that emerged from a shared desire to champion all that is good in the world of coffee. Every aspect of their space lifts up other businesses, including a rotation of coffee roasters from all over the world, sodas and seltzers from local makers and incredible pastries from Forno.
